While walking in the woods a few weeks ago it came to me that I should dye the colors I saw at my feet. I love the richness of these colors and am always amazed at how many colors there are. The shadows are as full of color as those in the light. The contrast between the fronts of the leaves and the backs always gets my attention.

I found this pattern while looking through the designs of "Drops". I love to make things with mitered squares. At the same time Demian handed me a skein of Rayon Metallic in a newly revived color "Tapestry" dyed over copper metallic. I had to use it. I don't usually leave projects undone because they are hard to reconnect with but I dropped everything and planned to make the Drops scarf. I gathered colors in a pile but the effect of the Tapestry seemed to be diminished by the jumble of colors. So I thought, "Let me go in the opposite direction. I will make a nearly monochromatic piece." I picked a Sock Plus color in "Deep Shadows" , a greyer but similar colorway that popped the brighter colors of the rayon. Unfortunately the copper metallic doesn't show well in the photo but the combination produced an elegant sparkly shawl. There were quite a few threads left to deal with. I wanted the back to look as good as the front so instead of weaving them in I decided to incorporate the threads into the design and they became the beaded tassels. I like finished edges so I crocheted several rows around the outside. I am happy with the result. Just after putting the shawl on the model (I must give her a name) I received a package in the mail. It was a beautiful crocheted necklace by Denise Hagood of "Reason To Be" using our yarn. They work well together having some olivey greens that connect them and adding a bit of contrast to the whole.

This is a new yarn for us. It is a blend of cotton, rayon, and flax, combined with a metallic thread. I have been looking for the right t-top weight and this is just right. It knits quickly on size 7 needles and makes a soft fabric with good body. The petite and small sizes use just one 570 yard skein.

I have designed this top especially for this yarn. It is available now in petite, small and medium with larger sizes coming soon.

I really like this shawl. It's very easy to knit and I like the spiderwebby look of the lace. It uses one skein of Blue Heron Yarns Rayon Metallic.

I'm still working on this design. I hope to have it fine tuned by August. It will be available in four sizes. The small size uses just one skein of Blue Heron Yarns Softwist Rayon yarn. The beads at the neck really make this top look special.

New Beaded Vest

There is something soothing about adding beads to knitting. I love the body it gives to the side and front bands. It makes the vest hang so nicely. This seems to be my obsession for the season. This piece works as grey but has plenty of subtle color. This combination of Rayon Metallic and Sock Plus is a winner. The rayon adds sparkle and lustre and the merino adds softness and decreases the overall weight of the piece.

Meadow Vest

The beads on this vest go all the way
down the sides, around the neck band, and down the back. It is subtle and fun. I chose the soft color for the beads so they wouldn't upstage the colors of the yarn. The kit will be available on our website this week.

Shell Jacket

I had so much fun combining the beading with the knitting. The beads don't show up well in the photos but they run around the sleeve cuffs, the neck band and down the back.

It took some time but was well worth the trouble and gives a bit of weight to the jacket. Available as a kit.
